Express Shipping Depot

November 28th,
2003 was a special day for Edward and Marisol Lopez. They
celebrated the grand opening of their business Express
Shipping Depot, with the Alamo Chamber of Commerce. The
ribbon cutting at the grand opening represents more than the
start of a new business; it represents the fulfillment of a
dream.
Mr. Lopez
has been working in the shipping industry for eighteen
years. Through his exposure and experience in the industry,
he saw the need for a shipping store in the City of Alamo.
Eager to start the business, Mr. Lopez put his plans of
building his dream home on hold and invested his savings in
the business.
With the
assistance and guidance of the Small Business Development
Center (SBDC) at The University of Texas-Pan American, Mr.
and Mrs. Lopez were able to develop a business plan and
utilize a Small Business Administration (SBA) loan guarantee
program that enabled them to secure financing through Texas
State Bank.
Mr. and
Mrs. Lopez are thrilled about their new venture and are
pleased to announce that in addition to shipping and
packaging services, they offer office services and supplies
and mail box rentals. Express Shipping Depot is an
authorized pick-up point for UPS and FedEx and is in the
process of becoming an authorized Airborne pick-up point.
Mr. and
Mrs. Lopez encourage other entrepreneurs to pursue their
dreams but caution not to rush and to enjoy the process.
“Go for it! Plan, plan, plan, and go for it!” With an
optimism and strong commitment, they hope to open another
location in the Rio Grande Valley.
Express
Shipping Depot is located at 504 N. Alamo Rd., Alamo,
Texas. For more information, Mr. and Mrs. Lopez can be
reached at 956-782-2080. For further information on the
services offered by the Small Business Development Center (SBDC)
and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), please
call the SBDC at (956) 292-7535. SBDC staff will be more
than glad to answer any questions you have on starting
and/or expanding a business venture.
